Handbag with Charm?

This was probably my favourite DT challenge so far - Steampunk is right up my street as far as style goes, and this piece was easy to create. I used some bronze jump rings to create a series of chains, and then suspended various charms and beads using headpins. The versatile nature of this means it could also be attached to some leather cord and worn as a necklace instead of a bag charm. It would also be great with some fibres attached to it to add even more texture - that's the great thing about Steampunk: anything goes!!

Base cardstock: 7 Gypsies, 7 Gypsies stickers, Tag, Steampunk metal birdcage, Tim Holtz embossing folder, glimmer mists and clock die cut.
Method:
Used the clock face die cut as a mask and used three colours of glimmer mist for the background. Then used embossing folder with copper coloured card. Used various stamps on the background with brown and black ink. Cut the clock die cut in two and attach as in photo. The tag was a great place to journal. Attach the stickers and photo.

I stamped the IndigoBlu train stamp onto kraft cardstock using archival ink, cut out using my nestibilities and distressed the edges. I stained some chipboard cogs using perfect pearls and water to create a mist. Finally I stamped a Tim Holtz tickets stamp to replicate train tracks.

I coloured the image in using my promarkers, and cut her out using nestibilities. I added some punched butterflies, flat backed pearls, paper flowers coloured using orchid promarker and buttons to at their centres. Finally some ribbon and a bow.

I have used Wendy Vecchi's art parts made into small frame. I distressed the parts with a Rangers Distress Ink Pad in Antique Linen. I also distressed the paper from an old book to cover the centre. The image I have added Glossy Accents to to add depth and a 3D look.
The clock is a stamped image using an Archival ink pad it is then distressed around the edges using Antique Linen ink pad.
I have added a computer generated sentiment "Time waits for no man" and distressed it with antique linen again. I added a Tim Holtz ideology clasp, chain and sprocket. The key, corners and peel offs are from my stash.

This little booklet is made by covering the front and back of two ATC's with Graphic45 papers.
I then stamped each page using PaperArtsy stamps, all using distress inks (vintage paper and aged mahogany).
I then used water to blend out the inks to give different tones and effects.
Some areas are then covered ink clear embossing ink and then embossed with suet pudding gold lustre.
The fibres and sewing machine came from stash at ITC.

Simply Sunshine

The base for these is cut from some heavy orange card, the second layer from some thinner textured yellow card, then the third layer is distressed orange spotty paper (donated!)

Each layer is 5mm smaller that the last in both dimensions.

The top layer is cut from the yellow card again. It has been stamped using the new Hot Off the Press 'Sweet Tweets' stamp set in Memento inks.

I have then used a clear pad to go over the whole image and embossed with Crafty Notions Jewel Enamel in Diamond Clear. I particularly like this forsome images as it is very clear and shiny, but it is quite thick and gives texture.

I stuck this top layer on using foam pads, then added ribbons, gems and flowers from my stash.

The supplier unfortunately was not able to deliver the product in their normal time frame - but the wait is over. Now I have bent the rules here a bit - I've only used one of the colours! But I was so taken with these yellow pearls I had to use them with the new gauges of wire available. I made the outer ring with 1.5 mm wire, leaving a bit of overlap at the top for creating a wrapped loop. Then, taking some thinner 0.4 wire (0.6 would work better, as long as you can get it through the pearls but I didn't have any to hand), I cut four lengths and wrapped these around the bottom of the hoop. It's then a case of twisting these together to make the trunk, and then separating them out into branches, adding pearls at intervals. I secured these by wrapping the rest of the wire around the main hoop. You could then suspend it from a chain, or some ribbon.

Only 2 of the new destination paper pads, 3 of the commute tissue tape and 3 of the Alpha cards! I was on the phone pronto - our supplier told me more are on their way - can't wait.

Here is my project for this week. I have used a paper maiche book that comes in a set of 3. I have first covered the top and sides of the book with lined paper as if book pages.
I then used Ranger Distress Ink pads in Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Rusty Hinge and Frayed Burapon to colour the edges and seam. The front cover was a stamped image I had in my stash that I coloured with a combination of the colours above.

I coloured the Sugar Nellie image using dusty concorde, broken china, tattered rose, worn lipstick, vintage photo and walnut stain distress ink pads. The tag was stamped using a Tim Holtz stamp in versamark and then embossed using clear embossing powder. I distressed it using dusty concorde and broken china distress inks. I also distressed the adage tickets in dusty concorde distress ink, and added seam binding, lace and some flat backed pearls.

I used distress inks in vintage sepia, walnut stain, broken china and faded jeans for all the elements within the tag. Having distressed the background I stamped a Hero Arts collage stamp over it and painted parts of the butterfly with distress inks. I die cut the weathered clock, butterflies and on the edge fence out of cardstock and distressed them using the same distress inks. I stamped over the top of the butterflies using a Tim Holtz stamp, inked up in walnut stain distress ink. Finally I added and adage ticket and some seam binding to finish the tag off.

Hi all, it has been some time since I have had the time to get on our blog and give you an update on what is coming in store.

We have all the new Tim Holtz products either arriving soon or on their way as well as restocking on the usual Tim stuff! Pina and Helen got to play with the new markers and also some of Dy's new masks at his workshop and hear they are fab! ( Get the photo of the girls with Tim Holtz - who is grinning the most???? It is always nice to send your team members off for a treat - Pina and Helen crafting with Tim himself - he is a great instructor and a real down to earth person - glad they had a good time). But more on what is coming in - we have on our list the new Graphic 45, Kaiser Craft, lots of sizzix dies, the new range of Indigoblu stamps, a great paper range from a Polish designer (just yummy designs), lots of new beads and embellishments that are just divine, and these are just to name a few (I know I have missed some as I did shop!). We will over the next month our fabric range will start to arrive as we launch into this area of crafting.

Take a peak at the great range of workshops we have lined up for you - there is an exploding picnic basket, scrapbook workshops with a twist, and altered book workshop in May - again only mention a few - check out our website for more info.

Shrinking Earrings

One of the best things about being on a DT is getting to play with things you wouldn't normally think of trying - and I certainly tried a lot of techniques with this weeks theme.

I stumbled across this quite by accident! I used Stazon to stamp a bold art deco design on to the shrink, from a set of stamps, then sprayed some "Fireburst Red" crafty notions spray on, and noticed that the glimmer stuck to the ink, creating a nice shimmer when these catch the light, which you can't quite see here. I then cut holes with a hole punch for the jump rings, making sure these weren't always in the same place to create a tumbled effect. Then, using my trusty heat gun, I set about shrinking them. Once complete, I used silver jump rings and arranged the shrink like charms hanging off the earrings, and then finished them with silver colour shepherd hooks.

This is one of my favourite photos from our trip to Paris. It was such a magical visit.

Method:Layer the Creative Imagination paper over a dark red sheet . Then ink the large heart die-cut with Fired Brick Distress ink. Spritz a scroll stamp with water and stamped all over the heart die-cut and dry with a heat gun. Then add some more distress ink over the top. Add the photo and then using a Sakura gel pen (white) add the doodling. Ink the small die-cut heart, foliage and cherub pieces with the same Distress ink. Using a Pitt artist pen ink the word love on a Hero Arts sentiment stamp and stamp over the cherub die-cut and add the metal key. Add a gem brad to two crocheted flowers(made by me) to make the large flower. Using a black pen add the doodle lines around the page.

My project for this week is using die cuts supplied by Crafting Time. I cut aTim Holtz tag from a cereal box, marbled the background in pinks, reds & white ink. Distressed the die cuts supplied using Festive Berries Distress Ink pad. The stamp is Love, Love, Love from LA Compagine Des Elfes, the charm, flower, ribbons and button are from my stash.

Fimo Fancies

Fimo Fancies:I found this idea in an old book by Leonie Pujol and ATC's. She had an example in an Oriental style using black Fimo and stamping in to it with silver VersaFine.
I have done mine in red Fimo. I rolled it out thinly into a rough square. I then inked up a music background stamp with silver VersaFine, cut it into rough squares and rectangles using a knife. The next job was to link the squares together with twisted pieces of silver wire. The free ends of the wire I covered by forming tiny balls of Fimo.
Whilst the Fimo was backing, I inked up the ATC blanks with Memento Lady Bug, stamped across all 3 stamps with the music background stamp in silver and then pinched the tiny butterfly stamp from my sister to finish... (we then went out for lunch - oh, and a glass of wine...) The crowns came from stash at 'Its Crafting Time' and I have just coloured them up with Lady Bug and silver. The final additions are the pink and white ribbon and the little sticky gems in red, white and pink.
A bit of an experiment but it worked!

This layout features photographs taken by my son Tom on a trip to Gibraltar. To get the natural feel I used stamps by IndigoBlu (Nature 1 and Wild Meadow) which were just perfect for the job. I started with white smooth Bazzill and built the layout up over lapping the stamps as I went to give a feeling of depth. For the title I used a black ink pad and Wow Pearl Violet embossing powder. The small butterfly is made with shrink plastic which I alcohol inked and stamped before cutting out and shrinking and the larger butterfly was stamped on glossy card that had been coloured with alcohol inks.

This is an 8" x 8" layout I made using Distress Inks, IndigoBlu stamp 'Aneome Cormer', Glossy Accents, Sizzix Framlets, Dream Alterations die, pearl gems and Bazzill card stock. I decided to do this size as cards this size are very popular at the moment and this layout could easily cross over to make a card.

Love is in the air at the moment, so I made this card with that in mind. First I die cut the birdcage and bird from the Tim Holtz Sizzix die from pink card which is embossed with dots. I lightly distressed the card with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink. I fixed these to the card with foam pads. The heart I diecut from a Sizzlits Sizzix die "Hearts". For the sentiment I used the saying from the Creative Expressions Birds stamp set. I stamped it onto a die cut heart using Versamark ink and embossed it with WOW Apple Red super fine powder. Finally I added pink spotty ribbon and paper roses to decorate.

I really struggled with this weeks theme, largely because they aren't colours I normally work with, or would put together. I had been wanting to create something with pearls for a while, so I took a deep pink and quite a pinky red in the hope that they would work well together. I teamed this with white seed beads with a silver nucleus to add some sparkle and tie in with the toggle clasp - these are so shiny and add a bit of interest at the back of the design.

The construction is a spiral worked around a column of glass beads. I've used monofilament to thread the design as it is not visible in the wearing. I then cut some lengths from a curb chain to finish the necklace off. With the curb chain, you need to cut where it has been soldered so that you can keep the links - just close them afterwards with pliers, a bit like a jump ring.

I made a paper bag album for my husband for Valentine's day. The album is made using 2 lunch bag style paper bags folded and stictched together. I used Basic Grey Kissing Booth 12x12 papers and the chipboard and alphabet shapes set. The image on the front has been coloured using promarkers, and I added pearls and ribbon from my stash. I have made a couple of pockets that i will add some bits and peices to before the big day!!

Past Times:
I went to see the girls on Thursday after a difficult day planning a funeral and generally being depressed, for a bit of a natter and nose on what everyone else was doing.
Having got there, I got itchy and had to have something to play with, so Nina gave me some of the new 'Past Times' ATC card, specially designed for Crafting Time.
I got really inspired, and borrowed glue and scissors and ink from everyone around me (aren't crafters lovely people!)
These 4 ATC's are made entirely from the Past Times papers with a little stamping using Artemio 'Tea Time' stamps. It was so nice to work with stuff so obviously produced for the British market and having such a limited supply of craft stuff made me really think about what to do. Other than the papers and the stamping, the only other added interest is that I have heat embossed some of the fragments several times.

Newspaper:I went with the theme 'a new year' because of all the things that have happened so far just in January.
The ATC is formed as a pocket, layered up with newspaper and pink Bazzil and some black and pink spotty paper from my stash.
I chose the words for the tags and the front from newspaper headings to reflect the way I plan to move on this year.
The only other things I have added are a few gems, some ribbon and some paper fasteners to hold it all together.

I used newspaper print paper from the Tim Holtz Lost and Found stack of papers to make this card. Firstly I die cut the mannequin from the Sizzix Sewing Room die out of card covered with newspaper. I then dry brushed this with white acrylic paint and then edged with Walnut Ink Distress stain. Before attaching this to the card I pleated dusky pink seam binding across the front. The tag I made from a digital sentiment and layered onto a tag, again distressed with Walnut Ink Distress stain. Using the cotton reel die cut from the same Sizzix Sewing Room die, I made a covered reel of cotton using embroidery thread.

Vivaldi - A Touch of Class

Here is my card for this week ... I did find this a bit challenging to begin with!

I used a newspaper article on Vivladi as my inspiration. I tore round the picture of Vivaldi and then tore the music up into pieces. I used the serendipity technique to apply the music pieces to the card base. I mixed some perfect pearls (from the patina set) with water and spritzed it over Vivaldi and the music collage once it was dry. When that was dry I distressed the edges of the card base with broken china and pine needles distress inks. I stained a piece of seam binding with pine needles distress inks and then stamped the music stamp from the 7 Gypsies Lille set over it. I stamped the treble clef from the same stamp set over the music background using broken china and black soot distress inks. Finally I added Vivaldi and his signature, and a Tim Holtz memo pin with an adage ticket in it, again distressed in pine needles and broken china distress inks.

To make this card I used Summer Bloom backing paper, Summer Bloom stamp and Worn Lipstick Distress Ink. I then cut a tag with a Sizzix Die and added some lilac ribbon. The butterflies that Its Crafting sent to me I embossed with an embossing folder and then inked them with Distress Ink Pads and added Stickles. The buttons I altered with Promarkers and embossed with embossing powder to add colour. Finally I wrapped the Pom Pom trim around the card and added a greeting from Creative Expressions Fanciful greetings stamped in Distress Ink.

Whilst doing the tidying I came across some old ATC miniature post cards that seemed to be the right colours to go with my ideas for the 'buttons & bows' theme this week.

The background is stamped with a floral stamp from the Kanban Peacock set in Memento Potters Clay. The same image was then stamped with clear embossing stamp pad and then embossed with Stamp-n-stuff clear embossing powder. I then brushed Memento Cantaloupe over the whole ATC and then polished it to take it off the clear emboss.

I used the clear embossing pad round the edges and the dipped them in Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powder in Aged Mahogany.I have also used Memento Dandelion, Stamp-n-stuff embossing powder Star Dust and Tim Holtz Distress Stickles in Aged Mahogany.

I then triple embossed the mini postcard with clear emboss and whilst it was still warm, I sprinkled Star Dust powder in and then heated that. The other two post cards were treated in a similar way, embossing and sprinkling different powders in when hot.

Finally, I mounted the cards onto the ATC backgrounds, added the bobbly black ribbon (supplied) and then the buttons and tiny bows (supplied). And of course I added some sparkles!!!

Our theme for this week was to use *Buttons & Bows* and came with a little goody bag from the girls at Its Crafting Time.

I tipped my bag out onto my desk having to decided that first glance theme inspiration would be how we would do this and based on the contents and colours Valentines came to mind.

So I picked a coloured image from my stack of ready to go ones, found a paper from My Minds Eye which was neither overly female or overly male themed, fixed my image after matting with some bazill basics then decorated with the buttons, bows, pompom braid and butterflies which the bag contained.

Have to say, these were some of the best quality wooden buttons I've came across in ages! Often you find wooden buttons aren't just best sanded and still a little splinterly, but these I'd happily use on childrens cards, not a splinter in sight.

When I was set the challenge of using buttons and bows on this kilt pin, I was immediately drawn to the yellow ribbon, as it's so Springtime in colour! I used Inka Gold to colour up the buttons, which started life as natural wood. I've attached these to the pin using ribbon, and then turned eyes at the top of headpins with seed beads threaded on.

My inspiration for the projects was sewing and dress making.

The card:

I covered a square piece of white cardstock in Tim Holtz tissue tape and then distressed it using aged mahogany and vintage photo distress inks. The elements from the Tim Holtz stamp set were stamped onto cardsock using black archival ink and distressed using spiced marmalade, fired brick and aged mahogany distress inks before being cut out. I added this fab ball trim ribbon, a button that I stained in cranberry and red pepper alcohol ink, and some little bows to finish.

The Tag:

Having stamped some of the elements in brushed corduray and fired brick distress inks, I distressed the tag using tea dye, vintage photo and aged mahogany distress inks. I stamped the mannequin in aged mahogany distress ink and added a bow. The wooden button was roughly stained with aged mahogany distress ink and some twine threaded through and tied into a bow. Finally I added some of that fab ball trim ribbon, and some seam binding stained in aged mahogany distress ink.

Two beautiful items here Cathy, I love the way you have stained the buttons.

Beautiful Butterflies

I hand stitched the border around the page with crochet thread and decoration on the photo. Then stamped and coloured the butterflies and added a brad to the center. I coloured the ribbon bows and the buttons then inked white card-stock for the purple background. Finally I added ball trim ribbon and added a chipboard sentiment and flower from my stash.

A Very Clever Idea

At first I really struggled with the idea of a square sketch being transferred onto a tiny ATC, but then it occurred to me that I makes sets of ATC's and that the sketch could cover the whole set! The easy route was to put 4 together, create the design and then split it back up.

This meant I had to be careful to design it so that the 4 cards worked as a whole, but also stood alone.

Ingredients:All papers are from stash (mostly left overs from classes at Its Crafting Time), the metallic pink is from a selection at ICT. The flowers are a Tim Holtz die , and the circles are Spellbinder Nestabilities. Sparkley bits and ribbons from stash. In the end it all worked out as something that I really love!

I just love this approach Alison, great thinking!

Distressed Card

First I made a collage from Tim Holtz Lost and Found Paper Stack, this became the base for the card. I added a strip of the ruler paper along the bottom. I die cut a Nestabilities Scallop Circle and then stamped the bird image in Walnut Distress Ink using one of Tim Holtz's Urban Grunge stamps. I coloured the die cut with Antique Linen and added some glitz with Rock Candy Stickles. I cut an image from the paper stack to create and using Glossy Accents glued it to the Fragment and added a piece of fibre. The metal flowers are foliage by Tim Holtz. Finally I created the sentiment panel from digital backing paper, aged it with Antique Linen and added a Creative Expressions greeting. Finally I mounted the whole piece onto a square craft card.

DT Project is a Stamp holder/file

I have been meaning to make another stamp holder/file for sometime now.When I came across some hardboard from a large envelope I decided to recycle it .Many of you will know I love to recycle things especially to alter. I have made both front and back covers and used lots of distressing inks and stains.You will be able to see more details on my blog.

This kilt pin is available for you to look at in the shop, this is a full size kilt pin (costs 60p) but there are smaller ones available too. I have used Steampunk, ribbon, beads, buttons, twine and a bow to decorate it. It was very easy to make but looks very sweet. Today we can see Emma's creation.

I made this card using Tim Holtz's Distress Inks in Chipped Sapphire, Peeled Paint and Broken China to stamp a butterfly image. To get the colour changes I didn't clean the stamp after each colour so I got a varying shades of blue and green.

I adore butterflies so very very pleased to see Emma had used then to make this delightful card.

Flowering Beads

I found a pattern for beaded Russian leaves on the internet and wanted to use it to create a flower. I've been desperate for ages to make one, and when the theme of purple and green came up, I decided to make some of these leaves in different shades of green, and then continued to make the petals for the flower in purple using the same technique. The transparent seed beads really sparkle and catch the light, and I teamed this with some rondelles and pearls to make the stamens in the middle.

Materials: 5g of rainbow purple seed beads, 13g of amethyst seed beads, 5g transparent nucleus dark green seed beads, 5g very pale sage green seed beads, amethyst crystal rondelles 6mm, Pale Pink 3 mm bicone crystals, Pale Pink 6mm Pearls, 0.3mm copper wire in a complementary colour (I used red), Pale Green Nymo, Lobster clasp, crimp tubes, jump rings

Tools needed: Beading needles, scissors, crimping pliers.

Today we are beginning with Cathy

I sprayed the chipboard folder with Lettuce colorwash, lightly painted over it with white acrylic paint when it was dry, wiping sections off with a damp towel to reveal the green. I created the 'inspire' text by making a mask using the Sizzix die inspire, stamping onto the folder using versamark and then clear embossing powder. I repeated the stamping and embossing using a stamp from 7 Gypsies Lille set. I then went over the folder using distress inks, drying between each layer, and then stamped inpsire using green distrss ink. I added some ghosting again using a stamp from the Lille set. The inspire and bird cage were cut out of grungeboard and crackle painted. I cut another inspire out and covered in adrinodack ink (eggplant) and shadowed it behind the grungeboard one. Finally some TH butterflies and punched butterflies, cut out of glassene paper treated with alcohol ink, some pearls, text stamps and charms to finish.
